I started the Graphic Design Club on Susquehanna University's campus in the fall semester of 2023. I was the president and had the opportunity to plan events and activities for club members, such as guest speakers, redesign nights, game nights, and more. We also sold merchandise through the club, like sweatshirts, stickers, and t-shirts.
I planned a guest speaker event in which I invited graphic designer Mikey Burton to our campus to chat with us about his experiences (it was awesome!) He also did a workshop for us where he taught us how to design in his illustration style. This was the first time the department has had an in-person guest speaker in 6 years!
My process for organizing this event included reaching out to Mikey via email, presenting to the student government association on campus to receive funding, coordinating workshop plans with Mikey, developing an invoice, and creating graphics to promote the event.
This is the first round of merchandise we sold as a club. I held a club meeting where members sketched ideas for what the merch design could be, and then we held a vote afterwards in which my design won, so this is the design we went with. I designed it, found a print shop to get these printed through, planned a time and place to accept orders, and organized a time for members to pick up their sweatshirts.
Below are some examples of social media graphics I created to promote club events and activities.
